Oh no, the unexpected! Bambi has just jumped out in front of you and your next best friend, your car. Unfortunately, the deer are colliding with cars more often than each other. I am all for municipalities taking control of this horrendous situation. I am reassured when getting behind the wheel of my car that my car insurance company will step up to the plate when I have a mishap. And, my theory was recently tested when my husband and I did hit a deer out on the highway traveling 55 mph. The sky was dark and that crazy animal appeared out of nowhere! For those of you that say it is easy to avoid a deer hit, I have one word for you, “Impossible.”
I am so thankful that I have wonderful car insurance. My collision with this vast animal happened at 6:15 p.m. on a Saturday evening and by 1:00 p.m. the following Monday; my auto body repair shop had an insurance check in hand. By having car insurance, I was relieved to know that my car would be repaired and be road worthy as soon as possible. I would encourage everyone to make sure they have their car insurance through a reputable insurance company and have a professional relationship with their insurance agent. Once you are tested with an accident out of your control, you will be thankful you have an awesome car insurance policy.
One may argue that an insurance policy is not necessary. Let me put this in perspective. How would you like to pay for $4,500.00 in repairs after crashing into Bambi? Most of us wouuld not enjoy forking over this large amount of money to repair our car. This reinforces the importance of having car insurance. Not only is it important to have from a financial standpoint, but also from a legal standpoint. Most states require cars to have, at minimum, liability insurance. But, if your car is worth anything, comprehensive and collision coverage should be added. If I would not have had any comprehensive coverage on my car, I would have had to fork over the whole $4,500! Therefore, make sure you know the value of your car.
Car insurance may sound trivial, but once you have experience a mishap with your beloved car, you will think differently. Accidents and mishaps can occur at home or while on vacation. I will never forget the day that a friend of mine told me of her brother’s vacation to Yellowstone National Park. This family had the ultimate vacation escapade- a buffalo had decided to check out the family car, and I mean literally. A buffalo had decided to stick its head through one of the passenger doors! I had to ask her to repeat the incident, as it sounded too far out there! Low and behold it was true; and they were extremely happy that they had car insurance and had worked with a reputable insurance company.
Our family cars are something that we all take for granted, but we should remember that there are risks when we jump into them to travel throughout our day. A safe, dry car sure beats hoofing it in the midst of a cold, bleak winter. I do not know about you, but I am sure thankful that I have safe, warm, and insured transportation to get me from point a to point b. There is no getting around the fact that accidents do happen. But, my life was sure a lot easier when my car insurance stepped up to the plate and took care of me. I can honestly say that I was treated like gold! I hope you do not meet up with Bambi, but if you do, I pray you are insured and hit that beastly animal head on! Statistics show, swerving to avoid the animal will make the situation worse. Drive defensively and relaxed, as a reputable car insurance company will stand by you and get your car back on the road as soon as possible.
