The differences between Republican and Democrat are essentially the same differences between being an adult and being a child.
Seriously.
Think about being, oh, say 12 years old. You’re at the point where you’re a tad too young to have a job. But – if you’re fortunate – your parents give you an allowance. You get $20 a week in return for doing chores around the house.
Of course, you can spend that $20 on what you want – your parents are going to feed you. They’ll give you rides to where you need to go. They’ll make sure you get to a school. They’ll keep the roof over your head. Etc. Etc. Etc.
The kicker, though, is this: you’re still 12 years old. You don’t make any of the decisions about the family. Your parents do.
Democrats act like this 12-year-old. Only it’s not a set of parents that are caring for them, it’s the government. They’re happy with the government stepping up to provide housing and schooling and services. And they’re happy that they get the $20 per week to spend on their own.
Republicans, on the other hand, are like adults. They want more control of their lives, and of the culture in general. They want to do the jobs that they like to do. And they like to keep the money that they make – as much as they can. That way, they can spend it on their families, their churches, charities, and on themselves.
Adults have greater responsibilities. They also have more of a temptation to fall into bad things – such as greed. Some do fall into greed – and Democrats complain that this makes the Republican party evil.
But that is the exception, and not the rule.
Republicans, for the most part, believe in the essential goodness of the human being. They trust themselves more than they trust a government agency. It’s just the opposite for Democrats.
That’s the reason why lots of young adults, those that are in their early 20s, flock to the Democratic Party. They’ve left home, and they feel they need someone to take care of them. That, they reason, should be the government’s job.
But take a look at what happens when people get into their 30s and 40s – especially if they get married and have kids. All of a sudden, they turn Republican. Why? Because they learn what it means to take responsibility. They become confident in themselves and others in their country. And they want their hard-earned money to be spent on their own families, not given to the government to be redistributed to whomever the government feels is more worthy.
There’s one more main difference between Democrats and Republicans: Democrats defend killing of children before they’re born (they call this abortion). Republicans are against it. For the most part, that’s how the chips fall.
All the other differences are minor, but they tend to fall into the same basic ideological structure: Democrats want more government and less control of their own money and rights; Republicans want less government and more control of their own money and rights.
