With the economy still in turmoil and the rising gas prices, we have several reasons to save our money. Even if it is just a few dollars a week, it could save you later. Here are six reasons:
Hospital and dental bills
Most people are employed under their company’s healthcare, and that sometimes doesn’t cover a lot of the cost. Even with great insurance, the bills can stack up. Saving your money can help you pay those bills in case you need emergency surgery, braces, or just those fillings for you or your kid’s cavities.
Car repairs
Let’s face it; no matter how well you take care of your vehicle, you will always end up needing repairs of some sort. If your car ends up needing a new alternator, you could end up paying a hundred bucks just for the part. If your car needs a new transmission, you’re going to end up paying around six hundred dollars, not including labor costs!
Vacations
Sometimes you just need to get away, and that is going to cost you. If you’re going to a family reunion, you could get lucky and stay with a relative that’s close by. If not, you’re paying fifty dollars a night at minimum. If you want to go out of the country, you’d best be saving up a nice lump of cash. Plane tickets to places like Italy and France cost almost nineteen hundred dollars – for one person! Not to mention prices for restaurants, souvenirs, tours and hotels; this can add up to quite the bill.
College funds
If you have children or plan on going back to school, you’re going to need a huge chunk of cash. Scholarships can help, but not everyone can get a fully paid scholarship. Even with college loans, you’re going to have to pay them off and you can bet there’s going to be a high interest rate; it may take you years to pay them back. Things you’re also going to need to pay for in college may include an apartment, (if you don’t plan on having a dorm room, which may actually save you money in some cases) groceries and books for school. All of these things add up to a ridiculous amount of money.
Vet bills
You love your furry friends, and there’s no telling when they may get sick. Your dog or cat could end up needing surgery from their old age; they may get cancer or need medicine from an allergy. If you’re a bird owner, you probably already know they can get expensive. It can be very difficult to tell when they get sick; when they start showing signs of sickness, they could need hundreds of dollars in medicine. If you own saltwater fish – you’d better be prepared. Upkeep in saltwater tanks can cost you hundreds, if not thousands of dollars.
Pregnancy
This is a big one. Expected or not, if you or your partner does not save for a pregnancy, you can be in debt quick. Diapers, formula, bottles, and even clothing can make you fall into a pit faster than you can say diaper change. You can search sites for free stuff, but you’re still going to end up falling short.
Saving money as soon as possible may be able to help you in a tough time, or just make you able to spend some time with yourself or your family. Either way, there are several great reasons to save money.
