I think there is a very good reason why city and town governments should be able to display Christmas symbols. If this great country of ours ever needed God, it does now. We have teenagers gunning down class mates in school. We have a very high potential of terrorists creating havoc right here in our own neighborhoods. We have gas prices getting higher and higher which, in turn will cause increases in prices everywhere else. We’re losing our spiritual values. Respect for authority isn’t considered “cool”. People who commit crimes are glorified and romanticized in movies.
It seems that every time you turn on the TV, someone is trying to take God out of our lives. One person wants to take “In God We Trust” off of our money. Another wants to take “One nation under God” out of the Pledge Of Allegiance. Can we afford to turn our backs on God when, at any given time, we could find ourselves victims of drive by shootings, terrorist bombings, or road rage?
Besides, Christmas is supposed to be fun. If you start taking away familiar traditions such as displaying Christmas symbols, you’re taking from the magic of the season. Whether Christian or not, celebrating Christmas is a major tradition in this country. Its considered a season of goodwill, caring, and connection with other people. We shouldn’t do anything that takes away from the joy of the season.
