Upon registering a vehicle in the state of New York, proof of insurance is required. Along with this basic coverage New York requires driver carry an Uninsured Motorist policy. Uninsured motorist policies help cover the expenses caused by a driver who is uninsured. Minimum requirements for this policy is $25,000 with a maximum of $50,000 to cover bodily injuries for those involved in the accident.

Personal Injury Protection (PIP) is the final auto insurance requirement in New York. PIP coverage helps pay medical expenses for you as well as your passengers. State law requires a minimum of $50,000 PIP coverage be maintained.
