Did you know that it is illegal to throw snowballs in Michigan. When I think of all the times my mother would have loved to know about this law when the neighborhood kids decided to nail her on her way to the mailbox. Some of the old laws on the books are quite laughable and some make you wonder who actually did something that now required a law to not do it again.
Some of my favorites are: “Any person over the age of twelve may have a license for a handgun as long as he/she has not been convicted of a felony.” Really? Well that is not going to make my ten year old happy. “A woman may not cut her own hair without her husband’s permission.” Okay, where is the law about asking the wife’s permission to touch the remote. “Anyone bathing in public must have the bathing suit inspected by a police officer.” Now I would not mind if this law was enforced, I have often wondered how some people consider what they are wearing to be any kind of suit. This one here has to be one of my absolute favorite strangest laws in Michigan, ” A married couple must live together or be imprisoned.” I didn’t realize prison was an option. “It is illegal to paint a sparrow to sell it as a parakeet.” But I just bought all this paint! “Alligators may not be tied to fire hydrants.” Well that’s rude, what else am I supposed to do with my alligator. “It is illegal for a man to scowl at his wife on Sunday.” All I can think of is neener, neener, neener. Last but not least, “It is against the law for a lady to lift her skirt more than six inches while walking through a mud puddle.” I really cannot think of a suitable comment for this one, I know I am usually just happy to see a skirt that comes to the knee.
I know I love a good snicker as much as the next person, but I cannot even believe that laws like these existed anywhere. I know I do rather enjoy thinking that someone obviously had to do something for these laws to get created, think about that when you’re reading them. I am quite sure that just about every state is going to have some laws on the books like the one’s here. Find out what kind of strange laws your state has.
