Everyone has a different opinion about gay marriage; most opinions are based on religion and moral reasoning. However, if everyone just stopped for one minute they would be able to realize that the backbone of America is freedom and rights.
Our country was started because the pilgrims fled England in search of freedom from the Queen so that they could have the freedom to worship and practice religion as they pleased. America is the country it is today because we have fought to keep those rights. Even the people who are against gay marriage have the freedom to make a choice and that choice is to not enter into a gay marriage.
It’s really quite simple, marriage is the union of two people that love each other and wish to spend the rest of their lives together. To punish them and say that they can not be married because they do not have the same morals as most of the population is to say that they do not then have the same rights.
Also, for all of you that are religious and are against gay marriage as a result of it; did God not say in the Bible: Mathew 7: 1-5
“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 for in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and will the measure you use, it will be measured to you. 3 Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, “Let me take the speck out of your eye,” when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
In this passage your God is telling you that you are blinded by your judgment and are a hypocrite because everyone is a sinner and everyone falls short. Do not judge others when you have done plenty for others to judge you.
It is true that God says in Genesis that marriage is the union between a man and women but, doesn’t God also speak of being patient and kind. When the end of the world comes God will not blame you because others fell short, rather if you remain a hypocrite, God will ask you why you did not show compassion and understanding when this person fell. God is patient and knows that we will all fall down, yet he is patient and waits for us to find the right road for ourselves. So do not judge those around you, rather find it in your heart to congratulate them on their happiness, wish them the best, and pray for them in kindness.
