How to Save Money on Prescription Drugs by getting Generic Drugs and Taking Care of yourself

Switch your prescription drugs to generic drugs to save money.

People complain about high medical costs, and the rising costs of prescription drugs. That’s because medical costs are skyrocketing every year, every month and every day. All you have to do is take a medical bill from a year or two ago and see just how much medical costs have skyrocketed. With those high medical costs, are the costs of prescription drugs. Prescription drug cots are so unnaturally high because when a company creates a new drug, they want to make as much money as they can right away. And of course the drug manufacturer, has to pay for all the expensive costs for making and marketing that new drug. Usually the prescription costs go down for those drugs when the drug becomes older.

Usually, but not always. That’s why you have to be creative to get the most out of your prescriptions, thus saving money on the high costs.

Here are the  methods  that you can utilize to save money on prescription drugs:

Work with your doctor.

Ask for a cheaper prescription. Possibly there are older drugs on the market that are cheaper than newer drugs.  Newer drugs
are more expensive because the pharmaceutical company has to pay for the testing, and advertising for a new product. An older drug that has been on the market for several years, might be cheaper.

Pharmaceutical companies are also placing older, successful drugs over the counter now. They may still be sold at a pharmacy, but may also be available over the counter, such as Prevacid, and Nexium. Ask the doctor for drugs that are OTC, and that are more affordable for you.

When you lose your medical benefits, and you can prove that fact to your doctor, ask for samples. When you have established a relationship with your doctor visiting him so many times, that you  have helped him establish a practice in your town, then you can ask for freebies. When the doctor gives you a prescription, he may have samples. There is no harm in asking, but be warned, do not overextend your freebie invites.

Work with your Pharmacist

Ask your doctor or your pharmacist for the generic version of a prescription. The generic version is less expensive than the name brand drug. The generic version is the same drug, but it usually is manufactured by a competing company. Many retail chains, are offering a monthly generic prescription for only four dollars.

You can also sign up with several pharmacies, such as Wal Mart, and large Drug store chains to have the generic drugs mailed to your home. It is cheaper this way. The prescription only costs about ten dollars for ninety pills.

Peruse the Internet for coupons.

Look up the pills you need on the Internet. Look up a certain pill such as Nexium,  and print the cost saving coupon on your home printer. Several drug companies are also offering the pills you need with rebate cards. When you use a certain drug such as Prevacid, for a long period of time, you can take advantage of a rebate program. Look for rebate programs online under the specific drugs you need.

Getting rebates, coupons, and samples can help you  stay healthy, and help you save money on the high cost of prescription drugs.
