How to Redecorate your Bedroom on a Tight Budget

Wanting to make a more attractive living space is a natural desire. Sometimes you just wake up one morning and decide you’d like your house to look a little bit nicer. When you’re on a budget the matter becomes more complicated. Here you’ll find some things to do to make your room look a little better, short of buying that thousand dollar bedroom set.

Rearrange

Start off by just moving your furniture around. Switch walls your desk is on. Move the TV. Set the bed diagonally to the wall for a fresh look. Just take a look around and see if there’s some more attractive or just plain different way you can put your room together.

Paint it

Maybe this is obvious, but go out and buy a gallon or two of paint. Sure it costs money but a fresh coat of paint can breathe new life into a room. There are few more satisfying feelings than seeing a bright new color when you enter your room. For a 10 by 10 foot room you’d need only about a gallon of paint. This is estimated of course, and depends on your number of windows, doors and the height of your molding. A gallon of paint at Lowes goes for about $30, mixed in your color of choice. You can find cheaper ones that people have decided just aren’t the color for them. You won’t be able to mix your own color but there’s nothing wrong with these. Most stores will have a separate shelf in the paint section for these ‘Rejected’ cans.

New comforter

This one again costs money but you’d be surprised how a new duvet or comforter can make a room look. A solid color will give a clean look while a pattern can really liven the place up. Try a nice down comforter if you want something really soft, some of them also come with sort of ‘buttons’ so you can put different patterns and pictures on it when you feel like it. They look great and you’ll feel like you’re sleeping on a cloud.

Clean it

Who wants to hear this; right, but just clean the room! Having a clear floor and dust free shelves can really change how you feel about a room. Remind yourself what your carpet actually looks like before you write it off. Hang or fold all your clothes, toss all the trash and knock down all the cobwebs. Maybe go through your things and donate a few. It is quite possible someone else would love that novelty Charlie Brown candle you got for Christmas three years ago.

These are just a few things you can do to make yourself like your room a little more. Try other things too. Make new window treatments out of an old bed skirt, paint your dresser a color that will go great with the wall color you already have. Buy an area rug. There are tons of things you can do to make your space feel more relaxing, vibrant, whatever you’d like!
