With the economy being worse than ever, most people struggle to make ends meet. For many of them, living cheaply is associated with living a life of poor quality. This is not necessarily the case though.
How to live cheaply
Make a budget
The first thing you need to do when you know you have to live cheaply is to make a budget. Write down all your net income sources as well as your regular expenses and decide on a specific budget on a weekly basis that you can afford.
Focus on home entertainment
If you are one of those people who associate entertainment with going out every night, it may be time to reevaluate the situation. When struggling to make ends meet, entertainment cannot cost much. It is important to train yourself to think in terms of home entertainment. You might be surprised by all the things you can do at home and have the same, or even more fun than you would have if you had gone out. Read old books, or books you never had the chance to read up until this moment. Invite friends over for dinner and ask them to bring a home cooked meal each. Play board games, redecorate your house, make scrapbooks with old photos that you didn’t even remember they existed.
Buy in bulk
When it comes to products that you tend to use regularly, the best way to save money is to buy in bulk. That way, you will be able to get a bigger quantity of the products you need, at a better overall price. This is like killing two birds with one stone, as you won’t have to go shopping for a long time.
Pay with cash
With cash, you are able to control your spending habits each and every time, as opposed to credit cards, where you are encouraged to spend more than you can afford, as you are only asked to pay the minimum payment every month. Whenever cash is an option, make sure to take full advantage of it. Over time, you will see that you will be able to save a lot of money this way.
Be self-disciplined
If you hang out with friends who follow a luxury lifestyle, it is only natural to get carried away and attempt to follow the same lifestyle yourself, so as not to feel different. If you cannot afford this though, then with mathematical accuracy, you will get yourself in serious debt before long. In such a case, it is necessary to keep a safe distance from those friends, to be able to spend what you can really afford and stay out of debt.
Living cheaply is a matter of creating a solid plan and following it to a tee. The above tips can help towards the right direction, but the rest is up to you.
