Economy

From a financial point of view, a depression within an economy is one in which many people lose their homes, lose their job, become homeless, die from exposure to the elements, starve to death and/or die from an illness because they cannot afford medical treatment. Such was the case during the “Great Depression of 1929” and the on going “Depression of 2009” within the United States of America.

You see, the rate of unemployment within the United States of America is near ten percent and increasing with each passing minute. Tens of thousands of people have used all of their unemployment benefits. Then again, about five hundred and fifty thousand people lost their job during the month of September, 2009 for one reason or another.

That additional number of unemployed people is added to the estimated total of more than ten million people who lost their job, going as far back as October, 2008. You can easily blame the huge drop of the financial markets during that month and the months following.

So many job losses have resulted in a record number of people who subsequently lost their home. As of this writing, homeless people are everywhere within the United States of America and that number of homeless people continues to grow with each passing minute.

It is quite clear that the cause of the “Depression of 2009” is due to the huge increase in the price of crude oil, the overvalued prices of the stocks that are traded at the various stock exchanges, job outsourcing by multinational corporations, two wars being fought in the Arab World and the insane greed of the relatively few super rich people on Earth.

The elected politicians within the Government of the United States of America have loaned about a trillion dollars of the Taxpayer’s money to corporations and financial institutions, in order to prevent a complete collapse of the economy of the United States of America. To date, none of that money has gone directly to the people who require the most help, namely the majority of the citizens of the United States of America. As a matter of fact, the standard of living for the majority has decreased, and continues to decrease with each passing minute.

Something is clearly wrong somewhere, but it is the sworn oath of every elected politician within the Government of the United States of America to “Obey, Protect and Defend the Constitution of the United States of America.” In order to remain healthy and alive “We People of the United States of America” need a job. We need a place in which to live. We need affordable health care. We need to save for our retirement. We need to properly educate our future generation and we clearly need politicians who are not corrupt and/or only serve those people who donate the most money to their election campaigns.

The real question to answer here is: “Just how many people will suffer and die as a result of the lack of positive action from our elected politicians?” Your guess is as good as mine, but it is quite clear to me that those estimated ten million lost jobs must be recovered one way or another. Who did you vote for in 2008?
