They may not come with a price tag attached to them, but babies are quite expensive. There are many different costs that you can expect in the first nine months of a baby’s life, including the following.
Medical bills
The medical bills of a new baby can be quite substantial, depending on your health insurance plan. Many pediatricians recommend that babies come to the office every month for the first six months of life. Even offices whose appointments are not quite this often are still substantial. Of course if your baby has any medical issues as many newborns do, this cost can rise significantly. You will need to pay for any medications as well.
Diapers
You may be amazed at how many diapers your newborn goes through. Many go after every single feeding. What’s more, many will go as you are changing your diaper, so do not be surprised if you have a four diaper change in one sitting! Diapers range in cost greatly.
Wipes
In addition to diapers, you are likely to go through a lot of wipes for your baby. These also range in price depending on whether you get name brand such as Huggies or Pampers and whether you get a special thicker kind.
Clothing
Babies under nine months tend to grow out of clothing approximately every three months. You may literally need three separate wardrobes for those first nine months! You will need all different types of clothing and a variety because many babies spit up or drool and you might need to change their outfit several times a day.
Food/formula
You can save a lot of money by breastfeeding because formula is very expensive. Once the baby turns six months, most are encouraged to eat solid food. Baby jars of food can add up in price.
Miscellaneous costs
There are many other costs new parents can expect in the first nine months. Of course you will need baby furniture like a crib and the bedding. You will probably want to get toys such as a rattle. You might want a large play machine like an exersaucer. You will need burp cloths, diaper changing supplies like a pad, a diaper bag, baby spoons and other feeding supplies, bibs and other items.
There are many different costs associated with a baby in the first nine months of life. The above costs are just some that you might incur.
