Biography Suze Orman

Suze Orman, one of the top personal financial experts in the U.S. started her career as a short-order cook and waitress at the Buttercup Bakery in Berkeley, California. Born in Chicago, Illinois. on June 5, 1951, Orman’s first venture with finances was a disaster, when she ended up losing $50,000 she was given to start up her own restaurant.

After recovering from her disastrous loss, Suze Orman decided she would learn everything she could about finances and investing money and soon became a broker herself. Merrill Lynch, who gave Suze Orman her first job as a broker, told her women weren’t meant to work in this business and she’d probably be gone in 6 months. After leaving that company she went on to become a vice president of another firm  and within 3 years she opened her own firm in 1987.

In 1987, Suze Orman also published her book, “You’ve Earned It, Don’t Loose It”. Two years later, she was on the best sellers list with, “The 9 Steps to Financial Freedom”, and was also host of her own talk show.

Financial advisor, bestselling author, motivational speaker. and television talk show host, are some of the things that Suze Orman keeps busy. She has had her own show, “The Suze Orman Show” on CNBC for the past 10 years, where she gives financial advice.

Suze Orman has 9 New York Times Bestsellers to her credit. She has also written, produced, and hosted 7 PBS specials based on her books, and is described as being the most successful fundraiser in the history of public television.

Among Suze Orman’s list of awards are 2 Daytime Emmy Awards, 6 Gracie Awards and the Amelia Earhart Award.

In May 2008, Suze Orman was featured in Time Magazine as one of the “100 most influential people in the world”, and in 2010 Forbes Magazine named her as one of the “100 most powerful women in the world”. In an online interview in 2008, Orman stated her net-worth to be over 10 million in USD.

Suzy Orman appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show in one of the shows final episodes as one of “Oprah’s Allstars”. Prior to that, after an appearance on an earlier Oprah Winfrey Show in 2008, Orman gave away millions of electronic copies of her book “Women and Money”.

Suzy Orman’s advice to finding a good financial advisor is “Look in the Mirror”. She claims nobody cares more about your money than you do. She also says that by the year 2015, things will be better financially because by then all the problems with the euro should be solved.
