With the recent financial difficulties, more people are searching for assistance on their financial matters. There are numerous books that have been written providing advice on financial topics.
“The Total Money Makeover”
The Total Money Makeover was written by Dave Ramsey. In the 1980’s Dave made millions of dollars through real estate transactions and also lost it all. Over the years he has made millions of dollars again by telling his stories of how he got out of debt and helping others with their financial situations.
His process is broken down into seven baby steps. The book discusses these steps, and also includes stories from readers that have been able to get out of debt. He feels it is very important to have an emergency fund saved up. Baby Step one is to save $1,000 if you don’t have an emergency fund yet. Baby Step two is to set up a Debt Snowball for paying off your debts. Step three is to finish building up your emergency fund to cover 3-5 months of your monthly expenses. The next steps are to pay off your mortgage, save for retirement, college savings and more.
“Finish Rich”
Another author about financial matters is David Bach. He has written several books, including Smart Women Finish Rich, Smart Couples Finish Rich, The Automatic Millionaire and others. He started writing his books after hearing of stories of women having financial difficulties and not knowing how to handle them.
One his main theories is to watch the small expenses that can add up over time. The “Latte Factor” consists of these small expenses such as coffee from coffee shops. Also, to make you spending and saving automatic so you don’t need to think about it each month.
“People First, Then Money, Then Things”
Suze Orman is another financial expert that fell on hard times and fought her way back. One of her sayings is “People First, Then Money, Then Things”, which means to do what’s important for your family first. She has written several books and has a weekly television show to help people with their financial difficulties.
