Barbara Corcoran was born in Edgewater, New Jersey, and is best known for being a feisty real estate mogul, and for her appearances on national television. Barbara graduated college in 1978, and shortly after started a real estate business which she called The Corcoran Group. Several years later, in 2001 Barbara would sell her real estate company to NRT Incorporated for $70 million. Her entrepreneurial skills were very laudable, as she managed to turn a $1000 loan into a huge real estate empire, worth millions of dollars.
Barbara Corcoran has said on her website that she was not a good student in high school or college; in fact she said that she had straight Ds. This actually is the case with a lot of self made millionaires, being that they were average or poor students, or dropped out of college early. This is probably the case because these people are too busy focusing on their businesses and money to focus on school. I also find myself thinking the same way, which I would be more than happy to follow in a similar path to Barbara.
Barbara Corcoran is such a real estate expert, that she actually has another job working for NBC’s Today Show, where she comments on the weekly trends of the real estate market. Her television success continues, as she is also a “shark” on the hit ABC show Shark Tank. Shark Tank is a show where venture capitalists such as Barbara can invest in new entrepreneurs and up and coming businesses, in exchange for percentage equity of the company. In the first season of Shark Tank, Barbara Corcoran invested in eight young businesses, which she has helped lead to great success.
Barbara’s entrepreneurial spirit continues, as she is also the author of many popular books. Some of her books include “If You Don’t Have Big Breasts, Put Ribbons on Your Pigtail”, “Nextville”, and “Amazing Places to Live the Rest of your Life”. These books have become best selling business books, that are both entertaining and educational.
Barbara has also been known for being a very uplifting, and motivational speaker. Her great attitude of life is a great motivator for future businessmen and women alike. Overall, she continues to motive new businesses, and help them succeed in their businesses when she invests in them on the hit show, Shark Tank. I look forward to watching more episodes of her on ABC.
